This is a hybrid internship in Bloomington, MN. Interns must be onsite at least 3 days/week

 

The Software Development Intern is a student or recent graduate who will gain hands-on experience working on real-world software products and technology solutions. Working alongside experienced engineers, architects, product managers, and quality assurance professionals, the intern will contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of modern cloud-based applications.

 

This role provides valuable exposure to the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Agile development practices, cloud technologies, DevOps, APIs, data-driven applications, and emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. The internship offers an opportunity to apply academic learning to meaningful business challenges while developing technical, analytical, and professional skills.

 

What you’ll be doing...

Software Development

  • Assist in designing, developing, and enhancing software applications using modern programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C#, or similar technologies.
  • Develop and maintain reusable, scalable, and well-documented code.
  • Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback from senior engineers.

Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Support creation and execution of unit, integration, and automated tests.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects.
  • Assist in validating application functionality, performance, and reliability.

Cloud & API Development

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of REST APIs and microservices.
  • Participate in cloud-based development projects using platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Learn and apply best practices related to security, scalability, and performance.

AI & Emerging Technologies

  • Explore and evaluate AI-powered tools and technologies that improve software development productivity.
  • Assist in developing, integrating, or testing AI-enabled features and services.
  • Utilize AI coding assistants responsibly to improve code quality, documentation, and efficiency.
  • Follow company guidelines regarding ethical AI usage, data privacy, security, and governance.

Collaboration & Agile Delivery

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including Software Engineering, Product Management, Architecture, UX, Data Science, and Quality Engineering.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies such as daily standups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives, and demos.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver high-quality software solutions.

Learning & Innovation

  • Research new tools, frameworks, and technologies to improve development processes.
  • Contribute ideas for product enhancements, automation opportunities, and process improvements.
  • Present project work, findings, and recommendations to team members and stakeholders.

What you’ll bring to us…

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in:
    • Computer Science
    • Software Engineering
    • Computer Engineering
    • Information Technology
    • Data Science
    • Artificial Intelligence
    • Or a related technical field

Technical Skills

  • Basic knowledge of one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Go.
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming principles and data structures.
  • Familiarity with software development concepts including version control (Git), testing, debugging, and APIs.
  • Exposure to relational databases and SQL.
  • Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts and services.

AI Knowledge and Responsible Use

  • Foundational understanding of AI and machine learning concepts.
  • Familiarity with Generative AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of responsible AI principles, including data privacy, security, fairness, and ethical use of AI.
  • Interest in applying AI technologies to solve business and technical problems.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Curiosity, creativity, and eagerness to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
