The Industrial & IoT Division at SAS is a vertically integrated line of business charged with innovation: innovation in products and solutions and innovation around market engagement. We encompass R&D, Product Management, Industry Advisory and Product Marketing. We are looking for a curious and innovative candidate who believes that AI can make a real difference for IoT applications. 

  

Within our Enablement team we are helping helps customers design modern, cloudready AI architectures that connect devices, ingest highvelocity streaming data, operationalize AI models, and deliver outcomes—like safety monitoring, asset health, and realtime insights. We collaborate closely with field sales, consulting, R&D, and product management to turn business problems into scalable technical solutions. 

 

As an intern, you might: 

  • Design, develop and document architectures and applications for IoT/realtime AI use cases, including Computer vision, GenAI and Agentic AI concepts and technologies 
  • Document best practices for architecture, model inferencing, including guidelines for fast, efficient deployment 
  • Develop and contribute to PoCs, demos and prototypes for IoT and streaming AI pipelines (e.g., MQTT, Kafka, API, sensors, video streams,…); help design Cloud and on-premise architecture, processing and dashboards to showcase value and readiness. 
  • Create technical collateral (solution briefs, diagrams, demos) used by Solution Advisors in customer engagements.  
  • Collaborate with R&D, Product Management, and Industry advisory teams 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • You’re an undergraduate college student enrolled in an accredited program studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field enrolled, not graduating prior to December 2026. 
  • Core skills (some academic or project exposure):  
  • Programming & Scripting: Proficient in Python, with exposure to Java, Scala, or TypeScript; solid understanding of SQL fundamentals.  
  • System Architecture Fundamentals: Familiar with core architectural concepts including components, APIs, data flows, interfaces, and non-functional requirements.  
  • Cloud & DevOps Basics: Foundational knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and version control using Git.  
  • Technical Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills; confident presenting complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • You’re curious, passionate, authentic, and accountable. These are our values and influence everything we do.

  • Leadership abilities. Your past experiences demonstrate you’ll take initiative and go above and beyond the call of duty. 
  • You’re interested in the future of AI and embrace technology. 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

 

  • Streaming & IoT Protocols: Hands-on experience with messaging systems like Kafka and MQTT, and familiarity with IoT communication protocols.  
  • AI & Agentic Workflows: Understanding of AI lifecycle concepts, including Generative AI and Agentic AI process flows.  
  • AI Frameworks: Exposure to machine learning and deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or ONNX.  
  • SAS & Analytics Platforms: Interest or experience with SAS Viya services (e.g., Event Stream Processing, CAS, ModelOps, Decisioning) or similar platforms for streaming analytics and model deployment.  
  • Time Series Data Design: Knowledge of schema design for high-velocity sensor data, including partitioning, idempotency, and de-duplication strategies.  
  • Edge-to-Cloud Architecture: Understanding of edge computing patterns, including gateways, brokers, and platforms like Azure IoT Hub/Edge, with considerations for connectivity, buffering, and backpressure.  
  • Technical Writing: Ability to create clear, customer-facing technical documentation and solution collateral. 

  

Timeline

  • Internship: May 19, 2026 – August 7, 2026.

Pay Transparency: The hourly rate for SAS internships is determined by the applicant’s year in school and the position they are hired into. Hourly rates range from $15 – $31 for associate’s/bachelor’s level positions and $29 - $49/hour for master’s/Ph.D positions. Internship roles are not eligible for bonus.
