As an intern supporting the quantum development team at SAS, you would contribute to research and development on quantum algorithms, hybrid quantum-classical approaches, product development, and customer pilot projects in support of the team's efforts to transform quantum research into production-level features. 

 

As an intern, you might: 

  • Research quantum computing algorithms, approaches, and applications 
  • Run, test, tune existing quantum hybrid algorithms 
  • Prototype candidate quantum algorithms that may be a good fit for future SAS quantum products 
  • Work with the quantum dev team on real-life customer projects/engagements 

  

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, or a related discipline, not graduating prior to December 2026. 
  • Strong computer programming skills with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Familiarity with linear algebra in relation to analytics  
  • Experience with Python  
  • Background in popular machine learning optimization algorithms  
  • You’re curious, passionate, authentic, and accountable. These are our values and influence everything we do.

  • Leadership abilities. Your past experiences demonstrate you’ll take initiative and go above and beyond the call of duty. 
  • You’re interested in the future of Analytics and embrace new technologies. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

 

  • Knowledge of quantum computing and related algorithms  
  • Understanding of popular quantum vendors and SDKs 
  • Knowledge and experience in Quantum Computing with an emphasis on optimization algorithms  
  • A high-level understanding of most machine learning algorithms with a deep knowledge of a few 
  • Background in logistic regression, support vector machines, decision trees, gradient boosting, random forest, PCA, etc. 
  • Background in mixed-integer optimization 
  • Background in large-scale nonlinear optimization 
  • Understanding of derivative-free optimization algorithms, strengths and limitations 
  • Some experience serving as or aiding a system admin

Pay Transparency: The hourly rate for SAS internships is determined by the applicant’s year in school and the position they are hired into. Hourly rates range from $15 – $31 for associate’s/bachelor’s level positions and $29 - $49/hour for master’s/Ph. D positions. Internship roles are not eligible for bonuses.
