Job Description

Glasgow Summer R&D Internship 2026

Research Statistician Developer Intern - Hybrid

Glasgow

Summer 2026

Nice to meet you!

We’re the leader in analytics. Through our software and services, we inspire customers around the world to transform data into intelligence – and questions into answers.

We’re also a debt-free multi-billion-dollar organization on our path to IPO-readiness.  If you’re looking for a dynamic, fulfilling internship coupled with flexibility and world-class employee experience, you’ll find it here.

What you’ll do

Looking for *that* internship? The game-changing one that’ll help you learn, grow, and chart your path forward? You’ll find it at SAS. Our interns aren’t coffee runners – they do real, meaningful work. Our award-winning internship program is focused on development, culture, and community. We’ll help you grow professionally, find (or further) your passion, and make memorable connections.

Developing talented people at the beginning of their careers is part of our core ethos. We are continually bringing new talent into our organization. Every year, SAS R&D in Scotland selects a number of interns to work with us for 10-12 weeks through summer. Starting dates may differ due to academic calendars through the last week of May.

The Risk Modeling Add-on group is responsible for creating risk-specific applications for credit risk modeling and insurance-based problems in SAS Viya: Machine Learning / Model Studio. These applications employ various machine learning and statistical techniques and give users a low-code approach to running complex analytics.  We are the data scientists and programmers behind-the-scenes. Customers use our software to create statistical and actuarial models to forecast losses in their portfolio, predict the risk of new borrowers and calculate insurance premiums.

As an intern, under the direction of another Research Statistician Developer, you might:

  • Work on developing a solution to new customer requirements, such as helping to incorporate a new statistical technique.
  • Work to expand functionality in existing source code.
  • Work to resolve problems in existing source code.
  • Work on expanding test coverage for existing source code.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree Type (Working on): Bachelor’s (rising senior, preferred), Master’s or PhD.
  • Targeted majors: Prefer a combination of two of those: Math, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Finance or Computer Science.
  • We are looking for a motivated intern who likes to blend statistical analysis and programming skills.  As such, course work should include Calculus, Statistics/Probability/Actuarial Sciences, Stochastic Processes, etc., that also required some programming.
  • Additional required skills/qualifications:
    • Programming experience in one or more of the following languages: Java, Go, C, Python, R, Julia, Excel, SAS etc.
    • Not “afraid” to learn the SAS macro language.
  • You’re curious, passionate, authentic, and accountable. These are our values and influence everything we do.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Leadership abilities. Your past experiences demonstrate you’ll take initiative and go above and beyond the call of duty.
  • You’re interested in the future of Analytics and embrace technology.
  • You’re a college student enrolled in an accredited program, not graduating prior to December 2024.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some general understanding and familiarity with statistical analyses and/or financial matters, such as risk.
  • Having some personal / fun projects demonstrating use of programming languages and/or math concepts.
  • Basic understanding of CI/CD and its best practices.
  • Basic understanding of GIT and source control engine.

Diverse and inclusive
