About the job
As Technical Consultant Health Information Exchange, you will support SAS healthcare delivery engagements by providing technical consulting to complex projects that utilize healthcare interoperability standards, specifically in the context of Health Information Exchange. A successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to solve complex technical, data and analytic problems by providing guidance and direction to internal and external stakeholders. The individual will use this knowledge to deepen customer relationships and ensure strong business value for customers through support of pre-sales, consulting, delivery, and operations support. In addition, the consultant will have excellent working knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards, industry trends and policy.
Primary Responsibilities
- Build credibility and trusted-advisor relationships with customers, including strategic high-level influencers, policymakers, decision-makers, technical staff, and end-users.
- Provide healthcare interoperability and clinical data subject matter expertise and hands-on keyboard delivery on support projects that integrate data from electronic medical records and other systems using healthcare industry standards, with a particular emphasis on HL7 v2, CCDA, and HL7 FHIR data exchange.
- Create customer-facing documentation describing best practices for data exchange with the Health Information Exchange, including HL7 v2, CCDA, and HL7 FHIR API interfaces.
- Support efforts to scope and define work effort, resource plans, and time/cost estimates.
- Conduct customer sessions for requirements gathering, data discovery, analysis, reporting and presentation. Work with delivery teams to ensure requirements are met.
- Assist delivery teams and customers in all areas of issue resolution. Seeks to rectify issues at the team level and escalates critical issues to ensure timely and collaborative issue resolution.
- Work effectively in a cross-functional team environment to support large scale data exchange programs used by thousands of provider organizations in North Carolina.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, health care, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience supporting clinical data interoperability through use of healthcare industry standards (e.g., HL7, X12, etc.)
- 2+ years of experience developing and maintaining solutions using Intersystems HealthShare products and/or other interoperability software, e.g. Orion, Health Catalyst
- Knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) systems, interoperability software and standards related to clinical data, with a particular emphasis on inbound data transforms (from HL7 v2 and CCDA) as well as support of HL7 FHIR.
- Ability to be concise, independent and provide defensible decisions in writing.
- Ability to travel as business needs require.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with EMR clinical workflows and how data from other systems can be integrated with those workflows.
- Understanding of how HL7v2 (particularly ADT and ORU), X12 Claims, and CCDA data formats map to HL7 FHIR resources.
- Experience creating or implementing FHIR and other HL7 Implementation Guides.
- Understanding of current and future State and U.S. Health Information Technology (HIT) Policy, Standards and Legislative Agendas from ONC/ASTP (including USCDI standards), HHS, etc.
- Work location in Cary, NC strongly preferred; Hybrid work environment available (2 days in office)
