About the job

The Facilities Services Department is seeking a Senior Electrical Technician to support our service teams at our campus headquarters in Cary, NC. This role is essential to our mission of providing safe, reliable, and efficient electrical systems that support the daily operations of our employees. As a key member of the team, the Senior Electrical Technician will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical infrastructure, while working closely with in-house support teams to ensure seamless building operations and contribute to the overall success and continued growth of the company.

 

As a Senior Electrical Technician, you will:

  • Carry out all assignments for wiring and placement of fixtures, outlets, breakers, controls, fuses and any other electrical components related to commercial applications using hand tools and following blueprint or engineering specifications if necessary.
  • Understand and have good knowledge of 3-phase power systems with operating voltages of up to 600 volts.
  • Understand and have knowledge of electrical test equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on commercial electrical equipment such as panels, transformers and switchgears.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and standards of the NEC and NFPA 70E.
  • Assist in general maintenance of the institution's facilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Six years of experience in electrical service, maintenance, installation, and repair or experience in low voltage service, maintenance, installation, and repair.
  • Formal training or coursework in electrical systems operations.
  • Good Knowledge of the NEC and NFPA 70E Electrical Codes and Safety Guidelines.
  • An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Excellent knowledge of effective building maintenance programs and repairs.
  • Good understanding of three phase electrical systems.
  • Good skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
  • Good skills in maintenance and repair of equipment and specialized tools.
  • Good skills in the use of hand tools, portable power tools and shop equipment.
  • Ability to organize work and work independently.
  • Valid driver's license in order to operate company vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • State Electrical Contractor's License and/or a Low Voltage State Contractor's License preferred.
  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments. May be informal team leader.
  • Work on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.
  • As a skilled specialist, completes tasks in resourceful and effective ways.
